Game One
Both teams were strong on the pitcher's mound Wednesday, February 9. USC Union Bantam baseball defeated Catawba Valley 3-1. The Bantam pitchers allowed just one hit to Catawba Valley. Catawba Valley got on the board in the first inning when an error scored one run for Catawba Valley.
Trevor Linaman got the start for the Bantams. The ace surrendered one run on zero hits over five innings, striking out six and walking one.
McGinnis led things off on the mound for Catawba Valley. The bulldog allowed two hits and two runs over four innings, striking out four and walking one. Ruiz and Carter entered the game from the bullpen, throwing one inning and two-thirds of an inning respectively.
Cayden Maxwell, Burton Hahn, TJ Highsmith, and Elier Sanchez each collected one hit to lead the Bantams. Dalton led Catawba Valley with one hit in three at bats.
Game Two
The Bantams stole the lead late and defeated Catawba Valley 7-2 on Wednesday. The game was tied at two with the Bantams batting in the bottom of the sixth when Antonio Gleaton drew a walk, scoring one run.
Bantams got things moving in the first inning and scored one run when Burton Hahn doubled. The Bantams evened things up in the bottom of the fifth inning when Hahn's sac fly scored one run for the Bantams. Bryson Daniel was on the hill for Bantams and the bulldog went four innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out one, and walking zero.
Case started the game for Catawba Valley. The pitcher went three innings, allowing one run on four hits and walking one. Minton, Motter, Byler, and Shepherd each entered the game as relief, throwing one inning, one inning, two-thirds of an inning, and one-third of an inning respectively.
Bantams totaled seven hits in the game. Trent Turner, Jak Evertt, and Hahn all had multiple hits for Bantams. Turner led the Bantams with three hits in three at bats. Bantams didn't commit a single error in the field. Evertt had the most chances in the field with four. Diaz went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Catawba Valley in hits.
