Bantam Baseball Sweeps Montreat
Game 1: The Bantams won the first game 13-1, thanks in part to eight runs in the fifth inning. Michael Adams singled, scoring two runs, Mason Elrod singled, scoring one run, Kris Levensteins drew a walk, scoring one run, and Tyler Strickland homered to center field, scoring three runs.
USC Union took the lead in the bottom of the third. Brett Boonedoubled, scoring two runs, to give the Bantams the advantage, 2-1.
The Bantams added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on three hits. Blake Exizian hit a solo home run to center field, Adams doubled, scoring one run, and Levensteins drew a walk, scoring one run.
Austin Brown earned the win for USC Union. He allowed two hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking none. Seth Hanson tossed one inning of no-run ball for the Bantams in relief, surrendering one hit, striking out one and walking one.
The Bantams accumulated 10 hits in the game. Boone, Adams, and Strickland each collected two hits. Adams and Strickland each drove in three runs. Levensteins led USC Union with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting nine walks for the game. Adams, Brayden Corn, and Strickland each stole multiple bases, and the Bantams stole eight bases total in the game. USC Union was sure handed and didn't commit and singe error. Vince Alvarez made the most plays with seven.
Game 2: The Bantams won the second game 11-0. Jordan Fricks drove in four runs on one hit to lead USC Union past Montreat. In the sixth inning, Fricks hit a grand slam to right field.
The Bantams got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Gram Morlan singled, and Montreat committed an error, each scoring one run.
USC Union scored five runs on five this in the bottom of the fourth inning. Morlan singled, scoring one run, a passed ball scored one run, Michael Adams singled scoring one run, Brayden Corn doubled, scoring one run, and an error scored one run.
Jared Penland earned the win for USC Union, giving up one hit and zero runs over one inning, striking out three, and walking none. Ezra Poolestarted on the bump for USC Union, giving up two hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking two. Trevor Merck, Colby Helms, and Alex Simmons each threw scoreless innings for the Bantams in relief.
The Bantams tallied nine hits in the game. Hayden Friend and Morlan were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for USC Union while hitting back-to-back. Again, USC Union did not commit a single error. Morlan made the most plays with nine.
