Lady Bantams Split Against SMC
Game One
There were runs aplenty on Sunday, as USCU Bantams Varsity defeated SMC 9-6. SMC got on the board in the second inning. SMC scored one run when #8 singled. USCU Bantams Varsity pulled away for good with eight runs in the third inning. In the third Cameron Jackson singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run, Devyn Royce laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run, Sarah Beth Ferguson doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Caitlyn Crawford doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs, and Gabby Kirkman doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.
SMC scored three runs in the fifth inning. The big inning for SMC came thanks to a single by #14 and a groundout by #11. Kailey Sanford earned the victory on the rubber for USCU Bantams Varsity. Sanford surrendered two runs on four hits over two innings, walking one. Emily Babbitt threw five innings in relief out of the bullpen. #16 toed the rubber for SMC. The bulldog went six innings, allowing nine runs on 14 hits, striking out five and walking zero. #18 threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. USCU Bantams Varsity smacked one home run on the day. Kirkman went yard in the sixth inning.
USCU Bantams Varsity had 15 hits in the game. Grace Lee, Crawford, Kirkman, Jackson, Sanford, and Ferguson each collected multiple hits for USCU Bantams Varsity. Lee went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead USCU Bantams Varsity in hits. USCU Bantams Varsity didn't commit a single error in the field. Jackson had five chances in the field, the most on the team. SMC tallied 14 hits. #12, #8, #31, #11, and #13 each racked up multiple hits for SMC. #12 led SMC with three hits in four at bats.
Game Two
It came down to the last play, but USCU Bantams Varsity was on the wrong end of a 6-4 defeat to SMC on Sunday. The game was tied at four with SMC batting in the bottom of the seventh when #15 singled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs. Emily Babbitt was on the rubber for USCU Bantams Varsity. The righty went six and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on 15 hits and walking one. USCU Bantams Varsity collected eight hits on the day. Gabby Kirkman and Caitlyn Crawford each racked up multiple hits for USCU Bantams Varsity. Kirkman led USCU Bantams Varsity with three hits in three at bats. SMC totaled 15 hits in the game. #15, #8, #16, #10, #12, and #13 all had multiple hits for SMC. #15 went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead SMC in hits. SMC didn't commit a single error in the field. #13 had the most chances in the field with six.
