Lady Bantams Spilt with Georgia Highlands, Monroe College

Lady Bantams softball brought home two wins this past weekend!

Game 1: USC Union took down Georgia Highlands 8-5 in their first game on Friday, Feb. 23.

The Bantams were the first to get on the board in the first inning when Madison Goossens singled, scoring one run. Seven more USC Union runs crossed the plate in the second inning to extend the lead to 8-0. Emma Chapman hit a solo home run to left field, Matigan Nettlessingled, scoring one run, Goossens doubled, scoring two runs, and Sophie Caley homered to left field, scoring three runs. Brianna Compton earned the win for USC Union, surrendering 11 hits and four runs (three earned) over seven and one-third innings, striking out one and walking one.

USC Union accumulated 14 hits in the game. Nettles, Chapman, Emily Kate Winstead, Goossens, and Peyton Morris each collected two hits. Caley and Goossens each drove in three runs. USC Union turned one double play in the game.

Game 2: Both teams were strong in the circle in the first game on Sunday, Feb. 25 but USC Union defeated Monroe College 2-0. 

Brianna Compton started the game for USC Union and recorded 21 outs.

USC Union got on the board in the bottom of the third inning after Monroe College committed an error, and Peyton Morris singled, each scoring one run.

Compton earned the win for USC Union, giving up six hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking two.

Morris led USC Union with three hits in three at bats. Matigan Nettlesled USC Union with one run batted in. USC Union didn't commit a single error in the field. Madison Goossens had the most chances in the field with six.
