Madison Goossens drove in four runs on two hits to lead USC Union past SMC 8-6 on Sunday, April 14. In the second inning, Goossens hit a grand slam to left field.
Despite falling down by seven runs in the second inning, SMC tried to fight back. SMC closed the gap by scoring on a double, a single, a solo home run, a single, and a single. USC Union jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Peyton Morris doubled, scoring one run, and Sophie Caley homered to center field, scoring three runs.
Abby Benfield led things off in the circle for USC Union. The right-handed pitcher surrendered 11 hits and five runs (four earned) over five innings, striking out one and walking one. Brianna Compton tossed one inning of no-run ball for USC Union in relief. Giving up one hit, striking out none and walking none.
USC Union tallied 13 hits in the game. Morris went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead USC Union in hits. Matigan Nettles, Caley, and Gracie Starneseach collected multiple hits for USC Union.
