Bio

Tommy Benfield was named assistant coach of USC Union in January 2024. He comes to the Lady Bantams following a successful tenure as a coach at Union Christian Day School in Union, SC. He helped lead the Lady Eagles to a 28-2 record over two years, two regional titles, state runner-up in 2019, and a SCACS A&AA State Championship in 2021. Benfield was also an assistant coach at Union County High School in 2023 on a team that finished district runner-up. 

Benfield graduated York High School in 1989 where he played on the football and baseball teams. After high school, Benfield played baseball at Anderson University where he graduated in 1991. Benfield joined the South Carolina Highway Patrol in 1994 and after graduating from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, and he was stationed in Union County. Benfield retired in 2018 as First Sergeant and was Post Commander over Cherokee and Union Counties.

Benfield has coached various levels including high school varsity and several levels of travel. Benfield resides in Jonesville, SC with his wife, Meredith. Tommy has one daughter, Abby.
