Bio

William Royce, a longtime pupil, and steward of the game of women’s softball, was named Head Coach of University of South Carolina Union on July 1, 2019.  Royce came to USCU after serving as a softball/volleyball coach, teacher, and administrator in the public school system for 28 years.  Royce graduated from University of South Carolina with a BA in Early Childhood Education in 1993, an M.Ed in Education from Cambridge University in 2005, MA, and Ed.D from Nova Southeastern University in 2015.

Prior to being named Head Coach at USCU, Royce coached at many levels including Lakewood High School and Clarendon Hall, Travel and Showcase Teams (14U, 16U), and worked as a private pitching instructor in South Carolina. He has presented and attended at local, state, and national conferences in the areas of pitching and sports organization.  During his coaching tenures, Royce achieved many accolades and honors while fostering girls to achieve their dreams of one day playing at the next level.

In 2021, Royce was named NJCAA Region 10 Division I Coach of the Year after posting the best finish in USCU’s history.  He followed it up in the 2022 season with another 2nd place finish in the Region 10 conference and Conference Tournament Runner-Up.  

Royce is the father of Gracyn Royce, a former SCISA All State Player, SCISA Player of the Year and Florence Darlington Technical College pitcher, and Devyn Royce, a former SCISA Rookie of the Year, SCISA All State Player and University of South Carolina – Union catcher/OF.
